Holi, the festival of colors, is celebrated across India with joy, but some states take the excitement to a whole new level, while others keep it low-key.
Uttar Pradesh, especially Mathura and Vrindavan, is the heart of Holi celebrations. The festival here lasts for weeks, with famous traditions like Lathmar Holi in Barsana, where women playfully hit men with sticks.
The temples of Vrindavan turn into a riot of colors, while in Mathura, Lord Krishna's birthplace, the celebrations are nothing short of magical. In Varanasi, even the cremation grounds witness Masan Holi, an eerie yet deeply spiritual celebration.
Rajasthan also embraces Holi in a grand way, with royal celebrations in Jaipur and Udaipur. The festival is marked by traditional dances, processions, and elephants draped in vibrant colors.
In West Bengal, Shantiniketan's Basanta Utsav adds a poetic touch to Holi, with Rabindranath Tagore's influence turning it into an artistic festival.
On the other hand, Tamil Nadu and Kerala witness much quieter Holi celebrations. While pockets of North Indian communities celebrate, the festival does not hold the same cultural significance. Similarly, states like Nagaland and Mizoram observe Holi in smaller gatherings, mostly in urban areas.
Regardless of scale, Holi unites people across India. Whether it's a grand spectacle in the north or a quieter affair in the south, the spirit of joy, togetherness, and colors makes Holi a festival like no other.
