Heavy overnight rainfall and the rising Yamuna have thrown Delhi’s routine off balance. On Thursday morning, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily closed gates at the Yamuna Bank station after floodwater submerged the approach road. Though trains continue to run and interchange is operational, commuters cannot access the station directly and some rescue help was sought for stranded passengers.
Large parts of Delhi-NCR—Monastery Market, Kashmere Gate, Ring Road, Civil Lines, Shankar Vihar, Secretariat underpass, and areas of Noida-Ghaziabad—remained waterlogged. Morning rush-hour witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic on Kashmere Gate, Outer Ring Road, Kalindi Kunj and other key stretches, with short two-kilometre trips taking hours.
Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory, asking vehicles from Chandgi Ram Akhara towards Rajghat to use Signature Bridge–Pusta Road–Raja Ram Kohli Marg. Officials urged residents to rely on unaffected metro corridors and avoid submerged roads. PWD attributed much of the stagnation to poor drainage and closed Yamuna outlets.
With the river still above danger mark and social media flooded with visuals of roads under water, authorities warn commuters to check real-time updates before stepping out.
