India has unveiled a power-packed squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, blending seasoned campaigners and promising newcomers. Rohit Sharma will captain the 15-member squad, with Shubman Gill as his deputy. Among the exciting additions is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is yet to make his ODI debut but boasts an impressive List A average of 54, including a double century.
Fast bowling aces Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Hardik Pandya return after significant lay-offs. Bumrah's participation hinges on his recovery from back spasms sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he took 32 wickets in a grueling campaign. While he'll miss the preceding three-match England series, Harshit Rana will fill his spot temporarily. Meanwhile, Shami, the top wicket-taker of the 2023 World Cup, and Pandya, who returns from an ankle injury, are fully fit to bolster India's pace attack alongside Arshdeep Singh.
The squad's all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, provide depth and versatility. Jadeja makes his ODI comeback after a 14-month gap, while Kuldeep Yadav strengthens the spin attack following a hernia surgery.
India's top order looks formidable with Rohit, Gill, and the dynamic Virat Kohli, though Gill may compete for the opening spot with Jaiswal, whose left-handed flair could bring balance to the right-heavy lineup. Wicketkeeping duties will be shared by KL Rahul, stellar in the 2023 World Cup, and the explosive Rishabh Pant.
India, placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, will kick off their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. Before that, they’ll play England in a three-ODI series in February as a tune-up for the high-stakes tournament.
