To enhance learning and reduce exam stress, the CBSE curriculum committee has approved the use of calculators in Class 12 Accountancy board exams. This decision, made in November, is awaiting final approval from the board's governing body.
Currently, only students with special needs can use calculators during board exams. By introducing this change, CBSE aims to align with global educational standards and the National Education Policy (NEP), reducing the burden of complex calculations on students.
The CBSE academic department, which led the curriculum committee, highlighted that allowing calculators would help students focus more on analytical thinking and case studies rather than spending time on lengthy calculations. This shift is expected to enhance conceptual understanding in Accountancy.
To ensure smooth execution, CBSE plans to release detailed guidelines specifying the types of calculators permitted in the exams.
During discussions, concerns arose about similar demands from other subjects. However, the committee clarified that this policy is exclusive to Accountancy, where logical reasoning and conceptual clarity hold greater importance than basic mathematical precision.
If approved, this initiative could significantly impact students' performance, making board exams less stressful while maintaining high academic standards.
