A video of Laxmibai College principal Dr. Pratyush Vatsala applying cow dung on classroom walls has gone viral, igniting criticism and satire online. The Delhi University principal defended the act, stating it is part of an ongoing research study titled "Study of Heat Stress Control by Using Traditional Indian Knowledge." The project, she explained, is being conducted in porta cabins to examine indigenous cooling techniques.
Despite her clarification, backlash ensued, with many questioning the academic credibility of such practices. DU professor Vijender Chauhan questioned the future employability of students under such leadership. Critics mocked the initiative as regressive, with some suggesting sarcastically that drinking cow urine might be next on the curriculum.
The principal maintains the act is harmless and natural, but the controversy has reignited debates around science versus tradition in Indian academia. The Raj Bhavan and the University have yet to issue official responses.
