A fresh controversy erupted in Tamil Nadu after Governor RN Ravi asked students to chant “Jai Shri Ram” during a prize distribution event at Thiagarajar College of Engineering in Madurai. The move has sparked sharp political backlash, with the Congress accusing Ravi of behaving like an “RSS face” in the state and promoting ideological agendas.
Educationist group SPCSS-TN has demanded his immediate removal, alleging a violation of the Governor's constitutional oath by promoting religious slogans in a secular academic setting. DMK minister Mano Thangaraj and Congress MP Sashikanth Senthil slammed Ravi, stating he is defying constitutional values and undermining democratic institutions following recent setbacks, including the Supreme Court ruling against his actions on state bills.
Governor Ravi defended his remarks, invoking the Kamba Ramayana's cultural influence on Tamil heritage. The Raj Bhavan has not issued a formal comment yet, while political tensions between the state and the Governor continue to escalate.
