The Mahabharata is filled with tales of challenges, curses, and divine interventions. One such captivating story involves Rishi Durvasa, known for his fiery temper, and Draupadi, the devoted wife of the Pandavas.
During their exile, the Pandavas had to survive on limited resources. To assist them, Draupadi had received a divine vessel, the Akshaya Patra, which could provide an endless supply of food but would stop functioning once she had eaten for the day.
One day, Rishi Durvasa arrived at their hermitage with his large group of disciples. As a guest, he expected to be fed, and before eating, he went to bathe in the river. However, Draupadi had already eaten, which meant the Akshaya Patra would no longer produce food. She was filled with dread- failing to serve a guest, especially an easily angered sage like Durvasa, could result in a devastating curse.
In her moment of distress, Draupadi prayed to Lord Krishna, who promptly appeared. He asked for food, and when Draupadi showed him the empty vessel, Krishna smiled and found a single grain of rice stuck inside. He ate it and declared himself completely satisfied.
Miraculously, this satisfaction extended to Durvasa and his disciples, who, while bathing, suddenly felt as though they had eaten a lavish meal. Realising what had happened, they quietly left, avoiding any potential embarrassment or confrontation.
This story is a powerful reminder that faith and devotion can overcome even the gravest challenges. Draupadi's trust in Krishna saved the Pandavas from Durvasa's wrath, reinforcing the idea that divine grace always protects those who believe.
