Freedom of speech is one of the most powerful rights we have, thanks to the Constitution of India. It lets us speak our minds, share ideas, call out injustice, and express ourselves without fear.
In a democracy, that's a big deal. Article 19 of the Indian Constitution protects this right, but with limits. If speech spreads hate, causes violence, or threatens national security, it can be restricted. So yes, say what you feel- but say it responsibly.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the mind behind our Constitution, believed free speech was the voice of the unheard. For him, it was a tool for change, especially for the oppressed. He knew that uncomfortable or unpopular opinions were necessary to shake up the system.
Fast forward to today, and we see how relevant that still is. Take the case of Apoorva Makhija, a Gen Z voice who used social media to question norms and spark debate, only to face backlash and censorship. It reminds us why protecting free speech matters, especially in the digital age.
Ambedkar's message? Speak up. But do it with purpose and responsibility.
