On Friday night, India issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid traveling to Syria until further notice. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized that the ongoing situation in Syria has escalated, creating significant risks for travelers. As a result, the advisory strongly recommends that Indian nationals refrain from visiting Syria until the situation stabilizes.
In its press release, the MEA urged Indians residing in Syria to remain in contact with the Indian Embassy in Damascus and to consider leaving the country as soon as possible. The embassy has provided an emergency helpline via WhatsApp and an email address (hoc.damascus@mea.gov.in) to keep citizens updated on the situation. The MEA also encouraged those who can, to take the first available commercial flight out of Syria. For those unable to leave, the ministry advised prioritizing safety by minimizing outdoor activities.
The advisory was issued in response to the worsening security situation in Syria, which has become increasingly volatile in recent weeks. The MEA highlighted the need for heightened caution, keeping in mind the safety of Indian nationals living in Syria. Given the unpredictable and dangerous conditions, the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation, keeping the welfare of its citizens as a top priority.
The travel advisory serves as a precautionary measure to ensure that Indians in Syria are informed of the risks and have access to resources that can help them navigate the situation safely.
