Jay Shah has officially begun his tenure as ICC Chair, outlining ambitious priorities for his term. In his inaugural statement, Shah emphasized leveraging cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games as a transformative opportunity and accelerating the development of the women’s game.

“I am honored to take on this role and grateful for the trust of the ICC Directors and Member Boards,” Shah said. “This is a pivotal moment for cricket as we gear up for LA28 and strive to make the sport more inclusive and engaging for fans around the world.” He acknowledged the unique challenge of managing cricket’s multiple formats while stressing the urgency of enhancing women’s cricket.

With a rich background in cricket administration, Shah’s journey began in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association, where he played a key role in constructing the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. In 2019, he joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as its youngest-ever Honorary Secretary, further cementing his leadership credentials. His experience extends to serving as President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chair of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.

Shah succeeds Greg Barclay, who served as ICC Chair since November 2020. Acknowledging Barclay’s contributions, Shah said, “I extend my gratitude to Greg Barclay for his leadership and the significant milestones achieved during his tenure.” He also expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the ICC team and Member Boards to further expand cricket’s global footprint and elevate the sport to new heights.

Shah’s leadership comes at a crucial juncture for international cricket, with the sport poised for unprecedented growth and global visibility, particularly with its Olympic debut in 2028.
