In a shocking case of medical negligence, a Karnataka government hospital nurse has been suspended for using Fevikwik instead of stitches on a seven-year-old child's deep facial wound.
The incident occurred on January 14 at Adoor Primary Health Centre in Haveri district, where Gurukishan Annappa Hosamani was brought in with severe bleeding. Instead of suturing the wound, the attending nurse, Jyoti, applied Fevikwik, claiming it would prevent scarring. The child's parents, alarmed by her casual approach, recorded a video in which she confidently defended her method, stating she had used it for years.
Despite this clear violation of medical protocols, authorities initially transferred Jyoti to another facility on February 3 instead of taking strict action. However, public outrage over the lenient response forced officials to intervene.
Following a high-level review, the Karnataka health department suspended Jyoti after confirming that Fevikwik is not a medically approved adhesive. The Commissioner's Office of Health and Family Welfare Services labeled her actions as gross negligence.
Fortunately, the child is in good health, though officials are monitoring him for possible complications. The case has sparked widespread concerns over medical safety standards in public hospitals.
