India has made it to the Champions Trophy semifinals after defeating Bangladesh and Pakistan. But their next challenge is a tough one- New Zealand. Both teams are strong, with powerful batters, skilled all-rounders, and fast bowlers. But India’s biggest threat might not be the pacers- it’s New Zealand’s spinners.
Captain Mitchell Santner is an experienced left-arm spinner who has troubled India before, especially in the 2019 World Cup semifinal. Michael Bracewell, from a famous cricketing family, has been one of the best spinners in this tournament, taking five wickets with a low average.
Glenn Phillips, known for his energy on the field, also bowls useful off-spin in the middle overs.
New Zealand’s spinners have done well in Pakistan’s slow pitches, keeping their bowling tight even when there is little turn. Bracewell has been very economical, giving away just 3.20 runs per over, while Santner has kept it at 5.50. Even Phillips has done a good job controlling runs.
With the final possibly in Dubai, New Zealand will use this match to get used to the conditions. Their biggest strength is adjusting to different pitches. Santner might even bowl with the new ball against India’s aggressive openers.
While some say India has an advantage playing all their matches in Dubai, New Zealand isn’t bothered. They are confident and ready to fight for a place in the final.
