On January 27, the Dharm Sansad, organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), is set to take place during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. In collaboration with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the event aims to discuss significant issues impacting Hindu society and India's cultural heritage. The gathering will also address the RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat's stance on temple-mosque disputes across the country.
One of the major proposals is renaming traditional Kumbh rituals to remove terms linked to the Mughal era. ABAP President Mahant Ravindra Puri stated that the term “Shahi Snan” (royal bath) would be replaced with “Rajsi Snan,” and “Peshwai” (a grand procession) would become “Chhavani Pravesh” (camp entry). The intent is to emphasize India's cultural legacy over Mughal-era influences. This proposal was initially introduced by Madhya Pradesh's Minister Mohan Yadav and has since gained traction among the Akharas.
Another critical agenda item is amending the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, which ABAP claims obstructs the reconstruction of Hindu temples destroyed during the Mughal era. ABAP officials argue that now is the ideal time to challenge this law to realize the vision of a Hindu Rashtra.
The plight of Hindus in neighboring countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh is also expected to be discussed. The Dharm Sansad will demand diplomatic intervention to ensure the safety of Hindu minorities.
Additionally, ABAP proposes forming a Sanatan Board comprising all 13 Akharas to manage Hindu temple properties and monasteries, similar to the Muslim Waqf Board. This centralized body would ensure collective decision-making and advocate for the community’s rights.
