This Day is all about the Silent Saviors of our Lives

Every May 12, the world unites to celebrate the true backbone of healthcare-nurses. These everyday heroes work behind the scenes and on the frontlines, offering relentless compassion and care. International Nurses Day 2025, themed “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies”, calls for recognition, respect, and support for the caregivers who hold the health of millions in their hands.

This day marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing. The celebration was formalized in 1974 by the International Council of Nurses, but its roots go back to a 1953 proposal in the U.S. that aimed to spotlight nurse's selfless contributions.

From India to Ireland, and Canada to Vietnam, countries honour nurses with week-long festivities, award ceremonies, and awareness campaigns. In the UK, a symbolic lamp is passed at Westminster Abbey in a heartfelt tribute, while Singapore celebrates on August 1, and Thailand on October 21.
