In Indian culture, the evil eye or "Nazar" is considered a powerful force that can bring negative energy into one's life. It is believed that envy or jealousy from others can affect a person, leading to misfortune or obstacles in their life. To ward off this harmful energy, Indians have developed several unique and traditional techniques, passed down through generations, to remove or neutralize the evil eye.
One common method involves using salt. A small amount of salt is moved around the affected person in a clockwise direction and then discarded, often by flushing it or burning it. Salt is considered a purifier, drawing out the negative energy before being discarded.
Another popular technique uses cloves, which are believed to possess protective properties. A string of cloves is hung near doors or windows to keep negativity at bay. Burning cloves and spreading the smoke around a person is also said to cleanse them of harmful energy.
The water technique involves rotating water around a person's body, followed by throwing it onto a hot tawa (griddle) while chanting a mantra, symbolizing the burning away of negativity.
Finally, the Mundan sanskar, the ritual of head-shaving, is thought to protect children from evil energy, ensuring their purity and safety.
These time-honored rituals reflect the deep belief in the power of positive energy and the importance of protection against the evil eye.
