Content creator and actress Prajakta Koli recently transformed her debut romance novel Too Good To Be True into an audiobook, sharing insights about the creative process and her aspirations for a film adaptation. Inspired during the pandemic, Prajakta began writing the book as an eight-part series, initially unsure of its direction. But as the characters and narrative developed—especially protagonist Avni, whom she based loosely on herself—the story took shape organically.
She enjoyed voicing the audiobook herself, though the transition from page to audio wasn’t seamless. While recording, she found certain lines cringeworthy when heard aloud, leading to subtle edits to suit the audio format. As a fan of audiobooks, Prajakta always knew she wanted her story available in that medium.
While the book is entirely fictional, Prajakta says the characters and scenarios were built from scratch rather than real-life events. Her mother loved the book, her father is still reading it, and her husband has promised to finally finish it—now that the audiobook is out.
What made the writing journey most rewarding for Prajakta were the readers' heartfelt responses. Many shared that her novel pulled them out of a reading slump or was their very first book—a huge validation for the debut author.
Looking ahead, she envisions the story as a full-fledged film. While she's confident she'd play Avni herself, she jokingly suggested Henry Cavill for the role of Aman—"If we’re dreaming, might as well go big," she laughed.
