Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela has yet again ignited controversy following her assertion that a temple near the sacred Badrinath Dham is named after her. The claim, made during a podcast with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, has been met with strong disapproval from local priests, religious authorities, and residents of Badrinath.
Bhuvan Chandra Uniyal, a local priest and former Dharmadhikari of Badrinath Dham, labeled Rautela's statement as "completely misleading." He clarified that the temple in question, known as the Maa Urvashi temple, is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and is recognized as one of the 108 Shaktipeeths. According to ancient beliefs, the temple is associated with Goddess Sati and holds significant spiritual importance for the residents of nearby Bamani and Pandukeshwar villages.
The Maa Urvashi temple, located in Bamani village of Chamoli district, approximately one kilometer from Badrinath Dham, is a revered site where most pilgrims visiting Badrinath also pay their respects. The temple's origins are linked to two legends: one suggesting that the celestial dancer Urvashi was born from Lord Vishnu's thigh during his meditation, and another connecting it to the Shakti Peetha, where parts of Goddess Sati's body are believed to have fallen.
Local community members and religious authorities have expressed their disappointment over Rautela's remarks, emphasizing the need to respect the sanctity and historical significance of such sacred sites. They urge public figures to exercise caution and responsibility when referencing religious landmarks.
