Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has strongly criticized the BJP-led government's Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it a “brazen assault” on the Constitution. She accused the Narendra Modi government of pushing the country towards an abyss where the Constitution would exist only on paper.

The bill, passed in the Lok Sabha after an intense debate, aims to enhance the transparency and efficiency of Waqf boards managing religious properties. While the BJP argues it will improve governance, opposition parties, including Congress, claim it is part of the ruling party's strategy to polarize society.

Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party, Sonia Gandhi also attacked the proposed ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill, calling it another attempt to undermine constitutional principles. She urged MPs to resist the government's alleged moves toward authoritarianism and the creation of a surveillance state.

With tensions rising, the debate over the Waqf Bill is set to continue in the Rajya Sabha.
