A massive controversy erupted in Delhi as several private schools hiked their fees by 20% to a shocking 82%, sparking outrage among parents and fierce political backlash. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the newly formed BJP-led Delhi government of reviving the "education mafia" and favouring elite school owners. Former CM Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leader Manish Sisodia slammed the government for slashing the education budget and giving private institutions unchecked power.
Congress also joined the chorus of criticism, with Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav alleging that the government has betrayed the poor and middle-class families by allowing arbitrary fee hikes. Yadav warned that quality education is becoming a privilege of the rich, undoing years of educational reform.
As protests escalate and political tensions rise, parents fear being priced out of their children's future, raising urgent questions about equity and access in Delhi's education system.
