Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted on Wednesday that he faced no pressure from Donald Trump to concede to Russia, despite Trump's ongoing negotiations with Vladimir Putin. The revelation follows Trump's proposal for the US to take "ownership" of Ukrainian power plants, claiming it would provide the “best protection” against Russian attacks.
The call between Trump and Zelensky comes amid continued hostilities, with Ukraine and Russia accusing each other of fresh strikes. Trump, who described his conversation with Zelensky as “very good,” also pledged to help Ukraine secure additional air defense systems from European allies.
Trump's push for economic and energy control in Ukraine raises concerns about US involvement in the ongoing conflict. With peace talks remaining uncertain, Ukraine's leadership is treading carefully between Western alliances and sovereignty. The geopolitical implications of Trump's proposals could redefine the war's trajectory.
