Kannada actress Ranya Rao, 31, was arrested at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport for allegedly smuggling 14.8 kg of gold. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained her upon arrival from Dubai, following surveillance triggered by her frequent international travel—four trips to Dubai within 15 days.

Ranya reportedly concealed the gold by wearing a significant portion and hiding gold bars in her clothing. Notably, she is the daughter of Ramachandra Rao, Karnataka's Director General of Police (Police Housing Corporation). Upon landing, she allegedly identified herself as the DGP's daughter and sought police escort, raising suspicions about potential misuse of connections.

Following her arrest, Ranya was presented before an economic offences court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. Authorities are investigating whether she acted alone or as part of a larger smuggling network operating between Dubai and India. The involvement of law enforcement officials is also under scrutiny.

Ranya Rao debuted in the 2014 Kannada film "Maanikya" and appeared in the 2016 Tamil film "Wagah." Her arrest has sent shockwaves through the South Indian film industry and law enforcement circles.
