With a rise in mild Covid-19 cases across select Indian states, medical experts are renewing calls for booster doses, especially for the elderly and immunocompromised. According to Dr Ranjan from AIIMS, updated booster shots targeting Omicron subvariants like JN.1, LF.7, and NB.1.8 could play a crucial role in preventing severe illness, hospitalisation, and death.
While India’s overall situation remains stable, the recent spike in mild infections in areas such as Haryana and Bengaluru has sparked precautionary discussions. Most cases require no hospitalisation, and officials have assured no need to panic.
The doctor emphasized that people who have not taken a booster in over a year should consider doing so. Public education, vaccine awareness, and misinformation countermeasures are essential as Southeast Asia and China report increasing infections.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging calm and preparedness over alarm.
