India continues to grapple with rising temperatures as heatwave conditions tighten their grip across the nation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Delhi-NCR and several northern states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan until April 10. Barmer in Rajasthan scorched at a staggering 45.6°C on Monday. Mumbai and surrounding districts are also on yellow alert due to hot and humid conditions.
In Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, warm nights are compounding the daytime heat, while doctors in Delhi warn of heatstroke risks. Relief is on the horizon, with light rain and thunderstorms expected in parts of North and Northeast India starting April 10–12, driven by a fresh western disturbance and low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal.
States like Odisha and Karnataka are expected to receive heavy showers, while isolated hailstorms may hit Jammu, Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, offering temporary relief from the oppressive heat.
