In a scathing attack on the Centre and Delhi government, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi highlighted the dire conditions faced by patients and their families outside AIIMS Delhi. Days before the assembly elections, Gandhi visited the area, interacting with those camped on roads, footpaths, and subways.
Calling the situation "ridiculous" and "inhumane," Gandhi described how poor patients and their attendants, arriving from across India for treatment, endure freezing cold, lack of food, and unhygienic conditions. “This is a humanitarian crisis. Why have the Centre and Delhi government turned a blind eye to this suffering?” Gandhi wrote in Hindi on X.
In a video shared on social media, Gandhi condemned the “insensitivity” of both governments, accusing them of making tall claims while ignoring the plight of the underprivileged. He also remarked that these families kept their hopes alive amidst unimaginable hardships.
The visit comes as Gandhi ramped up his criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), an ally of the INDIA bloc, equating Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal with PM Modi. Gandhi accused both leaders of making false promises, questioning their silence on crucial issues like the nationwide caste census.
In response, Kejriwal refuted Gandhi's remarks, claiming he was unfairly attacked. Meanwhile, Gandhi's outreach has sparked conversations around the larger healthcare crisis in India, emphasizing the need for systemic reforms to support vulnerable patients.
