In a fiery speech on 15th January 2025, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, launched a harsh attack on the BJP and RSS, accusing them of having "captured every single institution" in India. His target? RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who recently stirred up controversy by claiming that India's true independence wasn’t in 1947, but when the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was sacred. According to Bhagwat, India only truly achieved freedom after centuries of foreign invasions.
Gandhi didn’t hold back. Speaking at the inauguration of Congress' new headquarters in Delhi, he called Bhagwat's remarks not just misleading but downright rebelous. "In any other country," Gandhi raged, "Bhagwat would be arrested for such statements!" The Congress leader took the opportunity to remind the audience that the new building wasn't just a structure, it's a symbol of the sacrifices of millions of people, both past and present, who fought for India's independence.
But it didn't stop there. Gandhi described the current political battle as a clash of visions, one represented by Congress, promoting unity and equality, and the other by the RSS, which he accused of trying to dismantle the very foundation of India's democracy. "The Congress vision," Gandhi said, "is based on equality for all cultures, languages, and communities, as enshrined in the Constitution." In contrast, he claimed the RSS vision is one of centralization and division.
The BJP, of course, fired back immediately. BJP president, JP Nadda, took to social media accusing Gandhi of openly challenging the Indian state. He slammed Congress for allegedly supporting forces that weaken the nation's integrity and divide its people.
