The 90s Bollywood popular actress, Mamta Kulkarni, has been named the Mahamandleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. She performed a pind daan at Triveni Sangam on January 24 before being given the title. The news was announced by Acharya Mahamandleshwar Laxmi Narayan of Kinnar Akhada, who said that Mamta had been in contact with the Akhada for more than a year. She has been named Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri and welcomed to the spiritual fold.
Mahamandleshwar is a term used traditionally with Hindu monks to renounce the world and attain spiritual growth. Laxmi Narayan insisted that Kinnar Akhada does not restrict anyone to practice or do their art so Mamta is free to be her self in whatever way she may want to, within the realm of the spiritual community.
Mamta took Instagram to share a video in which she announced her plan to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi to take blessings and then move to Ayodhya. Mamta also updated that she has followed the path of sanyasini, thereby reflecting a great spiritual change in her life.
Mamta, the name recalls 90s Bollywood hits such as Aashiq Awara, Karan Arjun, and Waqt Hamara Hai. But the glow of her acting career dimmed soon after. Today, Mamta lives in Kenya, is married to Vicky Goswami, and in 2016, was caught in the middle of a scandal related to drugs. She put all rumors to rest in the year 2024 and has again been visible online. This new spiritual chapter marks a big change in Mamta's life, leaving her past behind as she embarks on a path of devotion and spirituality.
