Valmik Thapar, legendary tiger conservationist and author, passed away in Delhi on Saturday morning, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy. For nearly five decades, he remained the unwavering voice of India's tigers, authoring 32 books, including Living With Tigers and The Secret Life of Tigers.
Thapar’s work wasn’t confined to Rajasthan alone; he played a key role in reviving Maharashtra’s Tadoba reserve and sat on over 150 government committees. As noted by the Sanctuary Nature Foundation, he championed responsible tourism, uniting scientists, activists, forest officials, and politicians for wildlife protection.
From igniting young minds to mentoring future conservationists, Thapar’s influence shaped generations. “He was fearless, passionate, and a brilliant storyteller of the wild,” recalled conservationists.
His passing is not just a loss for India but for the entire global conservation community. The tiger has lost its fiercest human protector.
