In a surprising move, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced plans to introduce a law mandating the use of Indian musical instruments as vehicle horns.
Gadkari proposed horns that produce soothing sounds from instruments like the flute, tabla, violin, and harmonium to create a more pleasant road environment.
Highlighting the transport sector's 40% contribution to India's air pollution, he emphasized the government's support for green fuels like ethanol and methanol.
He also celebrated India's rise as the world's third-largest automobile market, with the automobile sector's value increasing from ₹14 lakh crore in 2014 to ₹22 lakh crore in 2025.
Gadkari's proposal aims to blend culture with innovation while reducing noise pollution, offering a unique shift in how Indians experience traffic sounds.
