Ceasefire signed. But why are India’s forces still on alert?

Following the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces have affirmed their continued operational readiness. Despite the cessation of hostilities, military officials emphasized that vigilance remains paramount to safeguard national security.

In a statement, Indian Navy Commodore Raghu R. Nair highlighted the armed forces' commitment to defending the nation's sovereignty. He stated, "Every misadventure by Pakistan has been met with strength. And every future escalation will invite a decisive response. We remain fully operationally ready to launch whatever operations may be required in defense of the nation."

Despite the ceasefire, India's defense apparatus remains on high alert. The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring rapid response capabilities are maintained. Colonel Qureshi also trashed Pakistan's claims of damaging Indian airfields and ammunition dumps.

"Pakistan alleged that Indian forces damaged mosques. This is misleading and baseless. Let us clarify, India is a secular nation and our forces reflect our Constitutional values. Indian armed forces inflicted heavy damage on Pakistan's land and air assets. Indian armed forces are completely ready, alert and fully committed to protecting India's security and sovereignty," she said.

The ceasefire, effective from 5:00 PM IST on May 10, was brokered through international mediation, notably involving the United States. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio played pivotal roles in facilitating dialogue between the two nations.
