A torrential downpour on Sunday night brought Bengaluru to its knees once again, with the Horamavu region witnessing severe flooding. Rescue teams were forced to deploy boats on Monday morning to evacuate stranded residents as water levels rose knee high in several neighbourhoods. Areas like Vidyaranyapura Sai Layout turned unrecognizable, as years of ignored civic demands for proper stormwater drainage came back to haunt the city.
Manyata Tech Park resembled a lake, while key routes such as Panathur, New BEL Road, and Silk Board suffered massive traffic congestion. Bengaluru Urban received 132 mm rainfall, one of the highest May records in decades.
Outraged citizens flooded social media, criticizing the BBMP and state government for repeated infrastructure failures. Despite tech parks and high rises, the city seems helpless when nature strikes. Calls for accountability grow louder as Bengaluru drowns, yet again.
