On June 6, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. Standing at 359 meters above the Chenab River, this 1,315-meter-long steel arch bridge surpasses the Eiffel Tower by 35 meters, making it the world's highest railway bridge.
As part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL), the bridge connects Kashmir to the rest of India via rail for the first time. Designed to withstand earthquakes, high-speed winds up to 260 km/h, and extreme temperatures, it boasts a projected lifespan of 120 years.
The inauguration also includes the launch of the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, reducing travel time between the two cities from 6–7 hours by road to approximately 3 hours by train. This development is expected to boost tourism and economic growth in the region.
The Chenab Bridge stands as a testament to India's engineering excellence and commitment to enhancing national connectivity.
