The World Happiness Report 2025, published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, reveals that Finland continues its reign as the world's happiest nation, marking its eighth consecutive year at the top. Denmark and Iceland follow closely, securing the second and third positions, respectively. The report evaluates countries based on factors such as social support, GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.
India ranks 118th out of 147 countries, reflecting a decline from its peak position of 94 in 2022. This drop is attributed to lower scores in perceived freedom and life choices. In contrast, neighboring countries like Nepal (92nd) and Pakistan (109th) have fared better, while China stands at 68th.
Notably, Costa Rica and Mexico have entered the top ten for the first time, ranking sixth and tenth, respectively, highlighting the significance of social cohesion and community support. Conversely, the United States has fallen to its lowest position ever at 24th, primarily due to increasing social isolation and financial challenges.
The report underscores the enduring "benevolence bump" observed since the COVID-19 pandemic, with acts of kindness remaining over 10% higher than pre-pandemic levels. This trend emphasizes the critical role of community and social support in enhancing overall happiness and well-being.
