On March 29, 2025, a partial solar eclipse will grace the skies of the eastern and northeastern United States, offering a celestial spectacle at sunrise. This event occurs when the Moon partially obscures the Sun, creating a striking crescent shape. In northern Maine, observers can expect up to 93% of the Sun to be covered at sunrise, providing one of the most pronounced views in the country.
Similarly, northern regions of New Hampshire and Vermont will experience substantial coverage, with up to 80-90% obscuration. In contrast, areas like New York City will see approximately 30-40% of the Sun obscured, while Washington, D.C., will witness minimal coverage, around 1-5%.
States west of the Mississippi River, including Texas and California, will not experience the eclipse, as it concludes before sunrise in those regions. For safe viewing, it's imperative to use proper solar filters or eclipse glasses to protect your eyes from harmful solar radiation.
