Sticky skin, surprise breakouts? This rainy season, fight back with these 8 expert tips!

As the monsoon season ushers in increased humidity, many individuals experience sticky, oily skin and unexpected breakouts. Dr. Gagan Raina, Clinical and Medical Director at Arisia Skin Clinic, offers expert advice to maintain healthy skin during this challenging season.

  1. Gentle Cleansing: Use a sulfate-free, non-stripping cleanser twice daily to remove sweat, sebum, and impurities without compromising the skin's natural barrier.

  2. Regular Exfoliation: Dead skin cells accumulate faster in damp conditions. Incorporate gentle exfoliation 1-2 times a week using enzyme or lactic acid-based exfoliants to prevent dullness and congestion.

  3. Lightweight Hydration: Opt for gel-based moisturizers containing hyaluronic acid or glycerin. These provide necessary hydration without clogging pores, keeping the skin fresh and non-greasy.(Moneycontrol)

  4. Sun Protection: Even on cloudy days, UV rays can damage the skin. Apply a broad-spectrum, gel-based sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily to protect against sun damage.(The Financial Express)

  5. Minimal Makeup: Heavy makeup can clog pores in humid conditions. Choose water-based, non-comedogenic products and ensure thorough removal before bedtime to allow the skin to breathe.(Rediff)

  6. Scalp Care: The scalp is also affected by humidity. Use a mild, pH-balanced shampoo to prevent fungal infections and maintain scalp health.

  7. Dietary Considerations: Consume antioxidant-rich foods like seasonal fruits and vegetables to support skin health from within. Staying hydrated is equally crucial.

  8. Avoid Overuse of Actives: Limit the use of active ingredients like retinol or glycolic acid during the monsoon to prevent skin irritation and maintain the skin's natural barrier.

By adapting your skincare routine to the monsoon's unique challenges, you can maintain a healthy, balanced complexion throughout the rainy season.
