In a major rescue operation, Indian authorities have successfully brought back 549 citizens trapped in cyber scam centres in Myanmar. These individuals were reportedly lured with fake job offers and then forced to engage in online fraud operations, targeting people across the globe.
The rescue mission was carried out with the cooperation of Myanmar's government, highlighting the growing menace of cybercrime syndicates in Southeast Asia. Victims narrated harrowing tales of confiscated passports, physical abuse, and forced labor in scam call centres run by organized crime groups.
Officials have warned job seekers to be cautious of fraudulent overseas job offers, as many victims were tricked through social media advertisements and shady recruitment agencies. With global cybercrime on the rise, India is tightening its vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future.
