Comedian Kunal Kamra reignited controversy on March 26, 2025, by reposting a parody song targeting Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, amid backlash for calling Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde a “gaddar” (traitor) in a Mumbai show at The Habitat.
The “Hawa Hawai” parody critiques corporate favoritism, taxation woes, poor roads, and government apathy, performed alongside his Shinde jibe. Facing police cases and vandalism by Shiv Sena workers at the venue, Kamra was summoned by Mumbai's Khar police but sought more time via his lawyer. Unfazed, he also shared a “Hum Honge Kangaal” parody mocking Shiv Sena protests, featuring visuals of the venue's destruction.
While the Mahayuti alliance condemns his Shinde remarks, the opposition backs his free speech. Kamra's sharp political humor continues to divide opinions, escalating tensions as legal and public reactions unfold in this high-stakes comedy row.
