When Usain Bolt lit up the 2008 Olympics with his 9.69-second sprint, a young boy in a small village in Punjab dreamed of running like him. That boy was Gurindervir Singh, and 17 years later, he's now India's fastest man!
At the Indian Grand Prix 1 in Bengaluru, Gurindervir clocked 10.20 seconds, smashing the national record of 10.23s set by Manikanta Hoblidhar last year. Competing against India's top sprinters, including Manikanta and Amlan Borgohain, he proved he was the best.
But his journey wasn't smooth. In 2022, he battled a severe stomach ulcer, lost 12 kg in just eight days, and struggled to even complete races. People doubted him, calling his previous achievements a fluke. But with medical help and determination, he made a comeback, improving step by step.
Now training at the Reliance Foundation under coach James Hillier, Gurindervir trains with India's top sprinters, pushing himself harder every day. His next big goal? Winning a medal for India at the Asian Championships and ending the country's sprint drought.
From setbacks to records, Gurindervir's story is proof that no matter how tough things get, champions always rise!
