Amid rising India-Pakistan tensions post-Operation Sindoor, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized Turkey’s pro-Pakistan stance. Speaking at a press briefing, Owaisi urged Turkey to reconsider its alignment, emphasizing India's rich Islamic heritage and significantly larger Muslim population.
He highlighted historical connections between India and Turkey, such as early Indian deposits in Isbank and Turkish pilgrims traveling through Ladakh for Hajj. Owaisi asserted that Pakistan does not represent global Islam and that India, home to over 220 million Muslims, should be seen as a key Islamic nation.
Following Turkey's diplomatic tilt, Indian academic institutions including LPU, JNU, and Sharda University have suspended collaborations with Turkish and Azerbaijani counterparts. Public outrage has also intensified, with calls to boycott Turkish products and services gaining momentum.
Owaisi's comments come as India reevaluates its ties with Turkey, a country it once aided during the 2023 earthquake.
