Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has come up with an unexpected but refreshing idea- replacing the harsh vehicle horns with sounds of Indian musical instruments like the flute, tabla, violin, and harmonium.
But why? To make traffic noise more pleasant and reduce noise pollution on India's roads.
Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Gadkari said he is considering introducing a new law that would require all vehicle horns to sound like traditional Indian instruments.
He believes this move could help make city traffic a little less stressful for everyone.
This isn't the first time he's floated this idea.
In 2021, he mentioned a similar proposal. In 2023, he also suggested setting an upper limit of 50 decibels for vehicle horns.
Gadkari is also thinking about replacing loud ambulance and police sirens with more soothing tunes played on All India Radio.
With the transport sector contributing about 40% of India's air pollution, the government is also pushing green fuels like ethanol and methanol.
Do you think this Gadkari's plan will make roads more eco friendly or annoying? Tell us in the comments! 👀
