On May 10, 2025, senior Indian officials convened a special press briefing to address recent hostilities along the western front. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, alongside Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force, provided insights into Operation Sindoor-a series of coordinated strikes launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.
Colonel Qureshi detailed Pakistan's offensive initiated late on May 9, involving high-speed missiles, drones, loitering munitions, and fighter aircraft targeting key Indian Air Force bases in Punjab, Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda. She emphasized that Indian forces responded with restraint and precision, aiming to neutralize threats without escalating the conflict.
Foreign Secretary Misri underscored India's commitment to de-escalation, stating, "We do not seek escalation, provided Pakistan reciprocates." He refuted Pakistani claims of substantial damage to its military infrastructure, asserting that India's actions were proportionate responses to provocations.
The officials highlighted the importance of maintaining regional stability and urged Pakistan to cease support for cross-border terrorism. They reaffirmed India's right to defend its sovereignty while expressing hope for a peaceful resolution.
This briefing comes amid heightened tensions between the two nations, with international observers calling for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation. India's measured approach reflects its strategic intent to address security concerns while minimizing the risk of broader conflict.
