RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has strongly criticized the rising trend of raising disputes over religious sites, deeming it "unacceptable" and counterproductive to India’s cultural ethos of harmony. Speaking at a lecture series titled "Vishwaguru Bharat" in Pune, Bhagwat highlighted the need for unity and inclusivity to position India as a global example of coexistence.
Referring to ongoing controversies over sites like the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal and Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan, Bhagwat clarified that while the Ram temple in Ayodhya was a matter of deep faith for Hindus, initiating similar disputes for other locations driven by hatred and enmity must be avoided. “Extremism, aggressiveness, forcefulness, and insulting others’ gods is not our culture,” he stated.
Bhagwat emphasized learning from historical mistakes to foster a more inclusive society. “There is no majority or minority here; we all are one,” he asserted, urging citizens to ensure everyone can freely practice their faith in India.
He advocated returning to the values of ancient Indian culture, which promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among diverse communities. According to him, such principles are essential to reduce societal friction and establish India as a role model for the world.
Bhagwat’s remarks reflect an effort to steer public discourse away from divisive rhetoric and toward fostering harmony in a pluralistic society. By denouncing contentious actions rooted in hatred, he underlined the importance of preserving India’s secular and inclusive fabric, essential for its emergence as a true “Vishwaguru” or global leader.
