Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur criticized the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government for taking a staggering ₹27,000 crore loan within just two years. Thakur compared it to the BJP's five-year tenure, during which it borrowed ₹28,744 crore.
Accusing Congress of financial mismanagement, Thakur warned that Himachal Pradesh's debt burden could exceed ₹1 lakh crore. He highlighted drastic budget cuts road, transport, and tourism funds slashed by 43%, irrigation by one-third, and agriculture by 40%. Welfare schemes, including women and child development, have also seen deep cuts.
Defending the budget, CM Sukhu cited declining Revenue Deficit Grants and halted GST compensation as major reasons for the reduced allocations.
As political tensions rise, the question remains can Himachal sustain its growing debt, or is a financial crisis looming?
