The Delhi government has released the list of dry days for the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26.
As per the excise department's latest order, liquor shops across the capital will remain closed on key religious occasions, including Ram Navami, Good Friday, and Eid-ul-Zuha.
Excise Commissioner Sunny Singh confirmed that the dry days are declared under Rule 52 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, ensuring compliance among liquor license holders. The following dates have been marked as dry days:
1. April 6 (Sunday): Ram Navami
2. April 10 (Thursday): Mahavir Jayanti
3. April 18 (Friday): Good Friday
4. May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima
5. June 6 (Friday): Eid-ul-Zuha
Meanwhile, Delhi continues to generate significant revenue from alcohol sales. In 2024-25, the state collected over ₹5,000 crore in liquor taxes.
However, past liquor policies have been controversial, with allegations of a scam involving former CM Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy. The issue played a crucial role in the recent Delhi elections, leading to a BJP-led government in the capital.
