In a shocking incident, 48-year-old Indian-origin woman Saritha Ramaraju has been charged with murder for slitting her 11-year-old son's throat in a motel room in Santa Ana, California. The killing occurred after a three-day Disneyland trip, during a custody visit.

On March 19, Ramaraju called 911, admitting to the crime and revealing that she had also attempted suicide by consuming pills. When police arrived, they found the boy's lifeless body surrounded by Disney souvenirs. A large kitchen knife, purchased a day earlier, was recovered from the room.

The crime is believed to have stemmed from a bitter custody battle between Ramaraju and her ex-husband, Prakash Raju. Orange County DA Todd Spitzer condemned the act, saying parental anger should never outweigh love for a child. If convicted, Ramaraju faces 26 years to life in prison.
