The Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has announced its support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking Banerjee for her continued support. “Thank you, Didi,” Kejriwal said in a post on X, acknowledging her unwavering backing during AAP's journey.
With this announcement, the TMC joins other INDIA bloc allies such as the Samajwadi Party and Shiv Sena (UBT) in extending support to AAP. However, AAP has decided to contest the Delhi elections independently, despite having allied with the Congress for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The AAP has been the dominant force in Delhi's political landscape since 2015, when it won 67 out of 70 seats, followed by another decisive victory in 2020 with 62 seats. The party is now gearing up for a third consecutive win as polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8.
The TMC's endorsement is seen as a gesture of solidarity within the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties aiming to challenge the ruling BJP at the national level. Banerjee's support highlights her alignment with Kejriwal's governance model and the bloc's commitment to unified opposition strategies.
