Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, announced on Saturday that Pakistan and India had agreed to a ceasefire, effective immediately.
Dar emphasized Pakistan's ongoing efforts toward peace and security in the region, stating that the country has always maintained its sovereignty and territorial integrity in its pursuit of regional stability.
His statement followed an announcement by US President Donald Trump, who confirmed that the United States had mediated the ceasefire between the two nations. Trump expressed his satisfaction with the resolution, praising both countries for using common sense and intelligence to end the hostilities.
India's Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, clarified that the ceasefire decision was a result of direct communication between the military officials of both nations.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the Pakistani Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to India’s DGMO earlier in the afternoon, agreeing to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea, effective from 5:00 PM IST.
A follow-up meeting between the military officials is scheduled for May 12 at 12:00 PM.
