The Asian Athletics Championships 2025 are underway in Gumi, South Korea, with over 2000 athletes from 43 nations participating.
India has sent a 64-member strong contingent, yet star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is notably absent. Neeraj decided to skip the continental event this year as he recently competed in the Doha Diamond League and the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial, finishing second in both.
Remarkably, he crossed the 90-meter mark for the first time in his career in Doha.
In Neeraj's absence, India's hopes rest on Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh, who qualified for the finals with throws of 79.62m and 76.67m, respectively. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem leads the qualifiers with 86.34m.
Despite Neeraj not competing, India is performing well, currently standing second in the medal tally with 14 medals -five gold, six silver, and three bronze. Star athletes like Jyothi Yarraji and Avinash Sable have contributed significantly to India's tally.
