Shreyas Iyer etched his name in IPL history on Sunday as he became the only captain to take three different franchises to the playoffs. Leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) to their first playoff qualification since 2014, Iyer ended an 11-year drought for the franchise. After being released by KKR despite winning the 2024 title, Iyer was bought by Punjab for ₹26.75 crore in the mega auction. He paid dividends with inspiring leadership and explosive batting scoring 435 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 174.70.

The achievement comes amid ongoing praise for his Champions Trophy heroics, where he scored 405 runs and was named ICC Player of the Month for March.

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar also spoke out against the unfair credit distribution last year, pointing out Iyer's instrumental role.
