In a dramatic pre-dawn standoff on May 8, India's air defence system successfully thwarted a large scale aerial attack by Pakistan, aimed at the revered Golden Temple in Amritsar. The Indian Army, acting on intelligence warnings, deployed a fortified air defence umbrella, including the AKASH missile system and L-70 air defence guns, to neutralise incoming threats like drones, loitering munitions, and long range missiles.
Major General Seshadri confirmed that not a single strike touched the shrine, stating, “Not even a scratch was allowed on the holy Golden Temple.” The attempted assault came in response to India's Operation Sindoor, a targeted retaliation that eliminated over 100 terrorists in Pakistan.
The swift and coordinated Indian response showcased the country's growing defence capabilities and unwavering resolve to protect its cultural and religious symbols, even under the shadow of war.
