Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply following unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir. In a rare hotline conversation, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations spoke, with India issuing a stern warning to Pakistan against continued violations. This surge in cross-border firing follows the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead, mostly Indian tourists.
In response, Indian forces swiftly retaliated in the Kupwara, Poonch, Tutmari Gali, and Rampur sectors. Meanwhile, India's Cabinet Committee on Security has announced stringent measures, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty and curtailing diplomatic ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has granted full operational freedom to the armed forces, heightening fears of a larger military response. A Pakistani minister's claim of an imminent Indian strike within 24-36 hours has added to the region's volatile atmosphere.
